Jhargram Ashoke Vidyapith began in 1950 with a modest group of students and a strong community ambition. Its development mirrors the expansion of secondary education in Jhargram after Independence.

A school founded in 1950

According to the school’s official history, Ashoke Vidyapith began with about 60 students in a rented house in the Kendutala–Bamda area. Local education-minded residents helped establish the institution, while Kailash Chandra Ray served as its founder headmaster.

Growth into a high and higher-secondary school

The school received permission to function as a high school in 1963. Higher-secondary Arts was introduced in 2000, and Geography was added during 2008–09. These milestones show how a small neighbourhood initiative expanded its academic scope in response to changing local needs.

A legacy of collective effort

Ashoke Vidyapith’s story belongs to the many students, teachers and residents who sustained it over decades. The school remains an example of how community action can create an institution with lasting influence on a town’s educational landscape.
